Why choose Organic bedding for your kids?

Babies sleep for nearly 16 hours a day. During that time, they are busy building strong nervous and immune systems. While this growth is rapid, there's a risk of things going wrong, especially when there are toxic elements in their environment. Child mattresses are typically made from synthetic materials, which are treated using highly toxic fire retardants. These chemicals off-gas and expose your children to high levels of hazardous volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Constant exposure to VOCs has been known to cause asthma, lung infections, respiratory diseases, allergic rhinitis, eczema, cancer and even SIDS in infants and children.

Why Are VOCs Dangerous to Children?

Volatile organic compounds are dangerous gas emissions released by household products like furniture, paint, cleaning solutions, and even car seats and strollers. Children may therefore be receiving constant and accumulative exposure to these VOCs both inside and outside their home. These gases are made up of a range of chemical compounds, most of which are known to cause serious health defects. According to the EPA, indoor air may contain VOC concentrations up to 10 times higher than outdoor air.
Children are particularly vulnerable to the harmful health effects of VOC exposure because they process pollutants differently than adults. They also breathe faster than adults, which means they inhale more air (including any VOC component) relative to their body weight.
Children are also more active and always busy exploring the world around them. This includes crawling, putting things in their mouths, and playing near the ground, which are likely to expose them to higher levels of VOCs.
Research shows that even minimal exposure to VOC emissions during pregnancy and in the postnatal period can harm infant neurological development. It can also impact immune and respiratory functioning (putting young ones at increased risk of asthma and allergy) and overall health and well-being.

Here are the top 5 reasons our customers make the switch to Organic...

1. They Allow for Safer Breathing
Many bedding products, particularly mattresses, contain harmful chemicals like carcinogens which disrupt hormones and cause cancer. By choosing organic, non-toxic bedding materials, you can provide your child with a safer, chemical-free sleeping environment.

2. They're Soft and Comfortable
Organic cotton fibres are softer than regular cotton ones because the latter are often drenched in chemicals that make them hard, rough and uncomfortable.
Likewise, using synthetic crib mattresses, sheets and blankets can lead to your baby becoming irritated and restless. The best way to keep them cozy is to switch to organic baby bedding.

3. They're Gentle on Their Skin
Your baby's skin is more sensitive than yours and readily absorbs chemicals that make their way into their bloodstream. Hence, it's important to choose organic products that are gentle on skin and safe for their health. Aside from being comfortable and resistant to dust mites and mould, an organic mattress is hypoallergenic and antimicrobial. This means your baby will be at considerably less risk of developing skin conditions like psoriasis, dermatitis or eczema.

4. They're Better for Farmers
Along with being excellent for the environment and your baby's health, organic cotton is a good choice for the farmers who grow that crop. Since organic crop harvesting doesn't use any insecticides or pesticides, they don't inhale these toxins. Moreover, GMO seeds are expensive enough to send some farmers who grow these crops into debt. With 100% natural cotton, there are no such expenses.

5. There's Less Environmental Impact
Conventional cotton requires a lot of water and is sprayed with insecticides and pesticides which enter the soil and damage the vegetation. Their residue, meanwhile, leaks into and contaminates local water. This is consumed by birds and animals which can be poisoned if not killed. What's more, the plant's chemically-infused seeds are ingested by many animals, which can fall sick and even die. Organic cotton on the other hand is a comparatively healthy choice for both wildlife and the environment. Since no chemicals are used to treat it and the farmers use recycled rainwater, there's no contamination or wastage of valuable resources.

Price is the only drawback of the organic bedding you buy for your child. But the long-term cost to their health is far greater than the short-term expense.
